Astor Deorad

Inquisitor of the Holy Church of Kriegrimm

Rootwater - 'Born Again'

Surprisingly enough, this song pretty much spells out Astor's background story. Plus, it has a nice dark tone, to boot.

Hammerfall - 'Heeding The Call'

Though I figure most will say this song is more for Paladins, it's still a fact that Astor is "guarded by prowess and the will to survive" and "led by the guiding light".

Wright Brothers - 'Awake O'Sleeper'

One could say this is the most controversial song on Astor's soundtrack. With the LARP group he is part of, we consciously steered away from real-world religions, yet this track is clearly based on a very real religion. However, the (literal) sound of it is very appealing to me and it's message to "stand with me, we'll fight the war" is befitting of an Inquisitor rallying the populace to burn the witch, or something along those lines.

Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Sound Track - 'Hell March 2'

Like with 'Heeding the Call', I figure a lot of people will say this song is more for Paladins, with the sound of an enormous army marching. I, however, can certainly feel such an army being led by Astor...

Disturbed - 'Indestructible'

Where 'Born again' speaks volumes for Astor, this song speaks loud for him and even moreso for the Inquisition as we play them as a whole. Virtually every line is appliable for the Inquisition as we like to portray them, such as "Another mission, the powers have called me away. Another time, to carry the colors again. My motivation, an oath I've sworn to defend."

E Nomine - 'Vater Unser'

'Vater Unser' has similar 'problems' as 'Awake O'Sleeper'; 'tis based upon real-world religion. Like 'Awake O'Sleeper', however, the overall tone of it is wonderfully dark.

Fuel - 'Won't Back Down'

I always imagine fantasy Inquisitors as being somewhat tragic characters. At one hand, they defend humanity, defend Light. At the other hand, the means they use to do so and the places they fight in are dark in more ways than one. And so, "I know what darkness means (and the void you left for me). The isolation stings..."

Rammstein - 'Links 2 3 4'

I've never had much love for Rammstein, but songs like this one has given me a slightly bigger appreciation of them. Included for it's militaristic feel.

Grigori Constantine

Haunted Bounty Hunter and Contractor

Editors - 'An End Has A Start'

Grigori is a normal bounty hunter...safe for the fact supernatural nastiness seems to follow him. With lines like "Someone hit the light 'Cause there's more here to be seen", it fits him nicely.

Breaking Benjamin - 'Blow Me Away'

I won't lie. Grigori is a gun using character because I never had the pleasure to use Nerf weaponry before. So, Grigori makes that possible and thus he deserves songs that show that gun slingin' attitude.

Dope - 'Take Your Best Shot'

See above. Sorry for being lazy, but, really, it's the truth!

Filter - 'Hey Man Nice Shot'

Though the above two descriptions fit, this song is a bit more fun in that it describes a scene that Grigori could've witnessed - and perhaps has.

Mech - 'Painkiller'

"Rivers of madness, are flowing through my veins. Ain't no forgiveness, and all I got is pain! Never surrender, never give in. I'm the defender, and I'm gonna kill to win!". After hearing those lyrics, and the rest, I knew I had Grigori's song.

Saliva - 'Click Click Boom'

Grigori asked himself a question, now and then: "What the hell is wrong with me?" Though he has stopped doing so, the question and with it the song is quite cool and relevant.

Stabbing Westward - 'Haunting Me'

This was added last to his soundtrack, but I wonder why; it's almost eerie how good it fits.

Logan Conall

Scout, Ranger and self-appointed Hero

Blackened - 'Still I Bleed'

I don't have the exact lyrics available, but one of the lines goes a little like this: "Still I bleed, to drain my veins of death, betrayal, fear and hate." Which is a good description of what keeps Logan busy: he's busy defending his friends and his world, still bleeding, so there will be no more death, betrayal, fear or hate.

A Perfect Circle - 'Passive'

The key lyrics for this song to be included are "I know that you can hear this (go) Go ahead and play dead (go) Why can't you turn and face me? (wake up)" and ofcourse the whole feel of the song. Over the years I've seen many 'end bosses' surface as Logan and basically, this is Logan calling out to would-be enemies that they need to come out of hiding.

Mos Def and Massive Attack - 'I Against I'

Virtually none of my character soundtracks have an all-Fantasy vibe, but I believe this song takes the cake in it's non-Fantasy...Still, the song fits: simply describing combat.

Blues Brothers - 'Rawhide'

Surprised to see this here? You wouldn't be the only one. Moreso than other songs I've included here and there, this is included for it's 'rural', 'wild' feel and the notion that if you're on a long travel, you start to miss certain simple things.

Breaking Benjamin - 'I Will Not Bow'

Logan is not a magical inclined character. He doesn't use magic, knows little of it, merely acknowledges the Gods and very much prefers honoust steel to take the fight to his enemies. Yet, he has faced magical creatures, Gods, mages, living shadows, etc., etc. Yet, he will not bow...

Crossfade - 'No Giving Up'

Continuing in the same vein as 'I will not bow', this one is here to once more confirm and point out that I intend to portray Logan as very stubborn, even in the face of dangers he doesn't (fully) understand.

Dispatch - 'The General'

The song describes a general that, due to a nightmare, realizes that the hostile army he is fighting is made up out of soldiers like the ones under his own command: fathers who'd like to live to see their sons, sons who'd like to see their fathers one more time. Which is why he orders his men to stand down, in the hopes they'll live a good life, and even in the hopes the same goes for the enemy. Though Logan is no general, and fights in a fantasy world where battles luckily are much more black-and-white, he is starting to realize how bad wars can be, which is a character development I really like.

Disturbed - 'Divide'

As Logan is, or rather, was, a soldier in the no longer existing army of Quon, the wish the song describes not to be part of any unity may make it a strange song to include. You'd think Logan likes structure. However, he likes the (relative) freedom the army offered him, with his task as scout and is opposing any (supernatural) attempts at excerting any more control and dictatorship.

Dropkick Murphys - 'The Wild Rover'

Though I seldom take the time to portray it, I intend to have Logan have a much more sunny side, where he drinks with his buddies in the tavern, singing roudy songs and more of such things. This would probably be his favorite song.

Eminem - 'Till I Collapse'

My hopes are high that I don't have to explain the inclusion of this song, as I figure that anyone who has heard this song, realizes that for Logan, it's once more about being stubborn and not giving up.

Godsmack - 'I Stand Alone'

Though nowadays Logan has a lot more friends than he did when I first started playing him, he's still inclined to go about doing things by himself - and not afraid to do so.

Hoobastank - 'Without A Fight'

Let me just say "we're not going down without a fight".

Metallica - 'Wherever I May Roam'

As I've related elsewhere on DeviantArt, Logan Conall is, for a great deal, based upon Aragorn/'Strider' from Lord of the Rings. Conceived around my strengths, avoiding my weaknesses, we've got a woodsman, a ranger, a scout, one who roams freely in the woods of this world. "Rover, wanderer, nomad, vagabond. Call me what you will."

Nickelback - 'Learn The Hard Way'

As Logan, I've done some things that were, atleast IC, silly or dumb. If anthing, Logan has defenitly learned some things the hard way!

Norton Gost

Post-Apocalyptic Mercenary, Scavenger and Engineer

AC/DC - 'Have A Drink On Me'

For a LARP character, it's often not that hard to imagine their pasttimes. A Mage or Wizard may engage in a tactical game such as chess, 'simple' men such as Mercenaries may visit Taverns to tell tall tales, and the list goes on. On a LARP, however, it's hard to find time to portray such pasttimes. By their nature, LARP events are, more often than not, days it's busy IC. It just so happens to be it's the weekend with the big feast, the first few days of a siege, or whathaveyou. Whatever constitutes 'free time' for your character in their normal, off-screen time, is time they'll probably won't have. Which is why I like to hint at characters their pasttime through their soundtrack, such as here.

Judas Priest - 'Breaking The Law'

Though some would point at either Radovan for being my most 'evil' characters, the truth to be told is that I, personally, feel it's Norton. Though he'll go through Hell and back for his familly, it's he who I've done most 'evil' things with, such as extortion, looting and semi-random killing. And thus, "breaking the law" is most like him.

Disturbed - 'Land Of Confusion'

Though I can see that 'Land Of Confusion' is probably more of a political song, I've decided to take the lyrics more literal. As such, I've included it to be a song about Earth just before, during or some time after the Apocalypse.

AC/DC - 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap'

Like 'Breaking The Law', this song points at Norton's...habbits, if you will. The lines "Concrete Shoes, Cyanide, TNT!" and "Neckties, Contracts, High Voltage!" are all basically things he has done or will do. Quite like him for that; the setting almost forces a rather harsh attitude towards others, but it manages to remain fun, as it becomes more of a competition in outsmarting, than all-out war with other players.

Alien Ant Farm - 'Smooth Criminal'

If you've read through the whole list to this point, I think you've realized most of the songs on the character soundtracks are 'redundant' - multiple songs to point to a single theme or point of a given character. So, guess what this song is doing here...And, yup, you're probaly right.

Fatboy Slim - 'Right Here, Right Now'

The way I try to portray him, this song is Norton's answer to any challenge or insult issued: "right here, right now", there will be a response...

Guns 'N' Roses - 'Welcome To The Jungle'

I do believe this song is well-known. And I believe that statement is like kicking in an open door...Anyways. As with more songs, this song's inclusion rests on my own interpertation of it. For me, it's about Las Vegas or a city like it - a city where entertainment is paramount. To Norton, it's about the world as a whole, where he can do what he wants.

Rage Against The Machine - 'Calm Like A Bomb'

Norton is, amongst other things, certainly "calm like a bomb", as he aptly demonstrated last time by pretty much making minced meat out of an felled oponent last time...

Dave Matthews Band - 'When The World Ends' (Oakenfold Remix)

I hope I don't have to explain this one. It's quite obvious what this is to Norton, though he has still a woman to find for certain 'scenes'...

The Offspring - 'Staring At The Sun'

Taken literally, this is one more song that describes Norton's life: "Maybe, life is like a ride on the freeway, dodging bullets while you're trying to find your way. Everyone's around, but no one does a damn thing. It brings me down, but I won't let them!"

Radovan am Kaer Morhen

Vampire Warlord and Clan Advisor

Lordi - 'Would You Love A Monsterman'

Radovan is a Vampire, but with a mindset that's somewhat unique amongst the other Vampire characters on his event. Whereas we've got a few that have the classic 'bloodthirsty monster' vibe, Radovan is more focused on survival and keeps a low(er) profile. Not that he doesn't have darkness within, but I want him to be more silently sinister, with violent outbursts where apropriate. This song fits, in that it asks the proper question in the title, but, "yeah I would slay - Yeah I would maim"...

Megadeth - 'Symphony Of Destruction'

"You take a mortal man, and put him in control. Watch him become a god, watch peoples heads a'roll..." was all I needed to hear to place this song on Radovan's soundtrack. After all, that is just what he is, isn't he?

Skowyt - 'Running away'

Though I know who and what Radovan was in his life as a mortal, I intentionally leave it fairly vague to those who ask about it. This song is perfect for hinting at it, with lyrics such as this: "All his life he was helping them. And what he received was spit in the face. He always was to blame, and people shouted "A freak is here"".

Foo Fighters - 'The Pretender'

I'll admit that this song can be used for plenty of characters. It fits quite well with Radovan, as well. He'd tell you the same thing: "What if I say I'm not like the others? What if I say I'm not just another one.", "What if I say that I'll never surrender?"

Aiden - 'The Last Sunrise' (Dusk Remix)

I think one can guess I like to hint at the backgrounds of my characters through their soundtrack. This song hints at the Vampire that created Radovan and what he felt about her. Has it changed? Does he still feel the same? Does he feel regret? Who knows...

Metallica - 'Die, Die, My Darling'

I would like to invite anyone thinking that Radovan is a sissy by reading the above comments for my song choiced, to tell it to his face - that he thinks more carefully who he kills, when he kills and where he kills, doesn't mean to say he doesn't kill at all.

Elvenking - 'Totentanz'

This is easily the darkest song on any of my soundtracks. No, really: "The mother of pain, the mother of tears. The blackest of tortures, the most cruel of fears." The reason for it's inclusion and me downloading it (normally I don't listen to songs like this one), is in the last line: "The sweetest of tortures, that we call life, will hopefully cease with the slash of a knife." Taken in the real life context, I don't think anyone will have to guess what it alludes to. Taken in 'my' Fantasy context, it's about how "life" is better after Death.

Godsmack - 'Vampires'

Truly, do I have to explain this one?

Iced Earth - 'Blessed Are You'

Where Godsmack's 'Vampires' is rather explicit about being about Vampires, I feel 'Blessed Are You' is also about Vampires, speaking of the "Children of the Night". "Forever we will be standing tall, side by side."

Malice Mizer - 'Beast Of Blood'

It took me a fair few listens to realize that this song, by a Japanese group, is actually (partly) in English. Once I did, and found the lyrics, I figured the song should be for Radovan. Though the lyrics are just about ambivalent enough that they could be about a Werewolf, it's less explicit than with, for instance, E Nomine's 'Das Tier In Mir'.

Rob Zombie - 'Dragula'

A rocking song, named after arguably the most famour Vampire of all. How couldn't I include it?

Vader - 'Sword of The Witcher'

The RPG 'The Witcher' is a very good game, one I enjoyed tremendously. Not only that, it's soundtrack and the soundtrack with music inspired by it, are pretty damn good. The lyrics are all made suitable for the title character, the Witcher, but still, the songs, like this one, fit others. In this case, lines like "I am the Lord and Master of the Sword, see Magic in my eyes, that Force became my endless curse" made me decide to include it for Radovan.

Radovan Caelyr

Demonic Master-At-Arms of the Cosa Diavolo Nostra, Clan Cerastes

Lordi - 'Blood Red Sandman'

Though the characters Radovan Caelyr and Radovan am Kaer Morhen share more than their first name, there are defenitly a few things they explicitely don't share. Most notably, where I prefer to have the Vampire be more diplomatic and more restrained, I try to portray the Demon as much more violent. Let's just say "the neighborhood's pretty dead at night, and I'm the one to blame..."

Black Sabbath - 'The Mob Rules'

The Cosa Diavolo Nostra are basically Demonic Mafioso - or in other words, it's members are members of a supernatural Mob. And so I figure that few songs fit better than Black Sabbath's 'The Mob Rules'!

A Perfect Circle - 'Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums'

Supposedly, this is one of many anti-goverment songs. Given the lyrics and the context, I'm inclined to agree. However, me being me, I've decided to take this song more literal, esspecially thanks to it's raw sound. After that, it transforms, becoming more bloody, as it were, and perhaps more about an extortion racket.

Disturbed - 'Inside The Fire'

On the way back from ConQuest, I explained the concept of character soundtracks, or atleast how I use them, to one of my passengers. When this song came up, he asked me why I'd include it. I gave a simple answer I'll give again: given the chance, Radovan will give the same choice to a mortal.

Drowning Pool - 'Bodies'

I typed it once before, and I will type it again: I try to portray the Demon as much more violent. 'Bodies' fits that line of thought quite well, almost literally describing every next big battle scene in your (Fantasy) action movie of choice.

E Nomine - 'Das Böse'

E Nomine is, despite it's routs in a religion I don't follow, music I listen to regularly. The music has got a nice, dark vibe that is hard to pass up on. Here we've got another song for the character soundtracks, one I'd like to describe as follows: if Radovan Caelyr could sing, this is what he'd sing.

Limp Bizkit - 'Break Stuff'

I prefer serious songs, as I prefer serious characters. Now and then, I can't help but to slip in songs that are slightly more whimsicial, such as this one. And, really, don't you figure the Demon just wants to break stuff now and then?

Man O War - 'Hail And Kill'

Way back in the day I started to roleplay on forums, I met a guy I owe a lot to, even to this day. He introduced me to this band, who have a lot of cool songs. Most are suitable for my characters, but for Radovan Caelyr, I chose this one. He can easily relate to the notion that "blood and death are waiting, like a raven in the sky."

Rob Zombie - 'More Human Then Human'

Reading the lyrics of this song, you may wonder why I've put it on this soundtrack. I do, too. Listening to the song, however, it suddenly makes sense. This Demon is definitely 'More Human Then Human'.

The White Stripes - 'Seven Nation Army'

All you need to know is this: "I'm gonna fight 'em all. A seven nation army couldn't hold me back."

Voltaire - 'When You're Evil'

What I note under 'Break Stuff', goes double for 'When You're Evil' and even stretches that point almost to breaking. Still, the cheerfull way the evil is described, fits Radovan, esspecially when he's careless.
This, if it is anything at all, was hard to submit. Not that I doubted it's entertainment value, but I had no idea in what category to put it :XD: As you can see, I've kept it as generic as I can ;)

Now, what are you looking at? It's a list of songs and music, categorized per character I play, and with each track is noted why I feel it fits the character. Character soundtracks, if you will. As with "The many faces of me", this is directly inspired by a fellow LARPer and, in fact, the same one ;) I play these 'soundtracks' while heading to the LARP event where I play those characters and I feel they actually do help me get in-character :)
