Nerghul Warrior by Hellwolve Nerghul Warrior by Hellwolve
This is a fairly good photo of the most recent version of my Nerghul costume/character, the Fantasy/Medieval wielder of the Daemon Cleaver.
In his hands, the latter is an actual Daemon Cleaver - a Cleaver used by Daemons, not a Cleaver to hack appart Daemons ;)

Anyways. As mentioned in this journal, I'd like the help of anyone reading this and/or looking at this photo.

Because, I find the costume somewhat lacking. Even with bits dangling from the belt running under the cuirass, it's...I don't know.

It's not that I don't like it, not at all, but it doesn't evoke the feel I want it to evoke. Which, for the record, is right about this. Or this. The notion of me bulking up in the gym nonwithstanding (;)), I've got to figure out something else...

As I said, I hope there will be good ideas from you folks :) Feel free to suggest with words, with pictures, whatever you fancy :) If you're feeling particularly artistic, you could even draw on it or draw entirely new 'concept art' ;)

While doing so, keep the following ideas I already have or have rejected in mind, please:
 • Taller boots or more specifically, boots with thicker soles.

A fur 'cloak' of sorts. More or less rejected; would cover up too much armor, atleast with the first test-run I did.

Darkening the armor with, say, black ink.

Adding (even more) pieces of armor. I'm scared to try this, truth to be told ;)

Replacing the helmet with something better.

EDIT, 28-09-2009:
Also, one thing to keep in mind: I didn't create the armor, it's a set I bought from Norton Armouries, so it's pretty much as-is. Although they do custom work and custom finishes on their production pieces, they're hard to contact at the moment, so for now, it's unlikely I'll get more armor.

Someone may have alrdy recommended it but im on my phone and too lazy to find it lol. I believe some type of armor like a warskirt with a fitted belt and possibly gorget of some kind. Also making the helmet to match or think of making it opened faced with a face formed half mask shaped and tooled into a fashion of your choice. Along with some color stand outs i believe it would bring it all together.

Thanks for replying :) Thing is, this costume is, now, reference for how it was. It has been overhauled a few times and I hope to have the fully revised costume done sometime this year :) Amongst other things, it'll have a way better helmet and other improvements ;)

Hmm, my comments might be a bit late on this subject, but then.. im bored...

what id reccomend is this: -Layers-
add a padded coat (gambeson)- a chainmail, and a knee lengt leather or cloth vest underneath the armor you got, and i think your ready to go.. the gambeson should be kne length, the chainmail a little shorter, and the onger vest a little longer, this so that all layers are hinted..

make sure to roughen up the vest, make it dirty, messy and torn up, for that extra look...

another advantage of the gambeson and chainmail would be to bulk you up, it sure does for me at least ;)

- whats your armor made of by the way? ?

Better late than never; my costumes always evolve and pretty much never are truly finished :)

Now, then, your tips...They're good :) As it happens, I'm already considering much of it, but it'll be a while before I'll show the progress; I'm waiting for new gauntlets :)

According to the manufacturer's website, "hybrid polyurethane". Or in other words, not metal ;) Looks quite cool in real life as well, though, IMO :)

This gives me a much better idea on the armor.
